TMJ Treatment

Forty million people have TMJ/TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). It includes adults as well as children, and your symptoms may include:

  • Headaches/migraines
  • Facial pain
  • Neck & shoulder pain
  • Tinnitus (ringing of the ears)
  • Unexplained loose teeth
  • Sensitive & sore teeth
  • Jaw pain
  • Limited jaw movement or locking jaw
  • Worn or cracked teeth

If you have suffered with any of these signs or symptoms with no relief it's time to visit Smiles Ohio and Dr. Mindy Munowitz!

Bite Problems

If your bite is not balanced and the jaw-to-jaw relationship is off, pain and other symptoms can develop. When your bite is in harmony with your muscles, everything feels good, but if your muscles have to strain on a regular basis, symptoms can develop causing a lifetime of head, neck, and dental problems.

Let Dr. Munowitz perform an evaluation and help you achieve neuromuscular harmony.

Neuromuscular Dentistry and TMJ Treatment Options

Neuromuscular dentistry uses the relaxed position of the muscles of the head and neck to place the jaw into an optimal physiologic position. Twenty-five years of research and clinical experience have shown this position to be effective in treating patients with head and neck pain.

You may be a candidate for neuromuscular dentistry if you experience any of the following symptoms on a regular basis:

  • Headaches or migraines
  • Unexplained loose teeth
  • Worn, chipped or cracked teeth
  • Cracked, chipped or broken dental restorations
  • Pain or soreness around the jaw joints
  • Pain in teeth that seems to move around
  • Neck, shoulder or back pain
  • Facial pain
  • Clicking or grating sounds in the jaw joints
  • Limited movement or locking jaw
  • Numbness in your fingers and arms
  • Congestion or stuffiness of the ears

Dr. Munowitz's office currently uses the Myotronics K7 system in diagnosis of TMJ/TMD. We also use the Tensing Unit, an electrical muscle stimulator that exercises your facial and jaw muscles, to find your most relaxed state. In most cases, we can reposition your jaw without surgery or braces, and complete the treatment in just a few weeks
