SPORT APPLIANCE
"Performance mouthpieces" are among the new tools to help runners, cyclists and weight lifters, golfers and just about any type of sport you perform, perform better. These specially designed mouth guards are made of flexible, molded rubber plastic and fit over the teeth.
The mouth guards open airways and help an athlete take in more air, supplying more oxygen to the muscles. The guards also relax the jaw and reduce stress. Exercise physiologist Fabio Comana of the American Council on Exercise says that some research supports the theory that the mouthpieces provide "improved breathing mechanics and reduced jaw fatigue."
For example a weight lifter can increase his work out. A golfer and tennis player can get more rotation to their swing. A runner can endure longer with improved airway.
Here at our office we are now constructing these custom guards tailored for you for the sport you play.

Spring IAOMT Meeting
I just got back from 2 days of learning at the International Academy of Oral and Medical Toxicology that consisted of physician, dentist and PhD speakers.
The world of holistic living and enhancing our lives to the fullest is amazing. The new and existing science documentation is as well amazing. There was so many wonderful things that I learned and was opened up to.
One was watching a patient with Tourette’s have their symptoms completely go away once the jaw alignment was corrected and the disc over the TMJ recaptured. Amazing! Tourette’s is a reflex condition due to instability and once the instability was corrected so was the disease. Saw several of these cases.
Watched some brilliant minds wake up veterans who were being sent to the nursing homes after failed attempts at Walter Reed, Veterans hospitals to wake them up from comas.Stimulated with pharmacogenics, heavy nutraceuticals and brain stimulation these patients awoke. Of the 5 shown, 2 have since gone back for another tour of duty to Iraq.
These are just a few of the brilliant minds, working outside the box going against conventional methods with exceptional results.
Natural Looking Dentures
The quality of denture teeth has improved so dramatically over the past 20 years that are so natural you would not know that the person is wearing a denture. Along with the impression techniques that we use, the end result is a tight fitting natural looking denture.
Today with the many advances in implant dentistry, those who do not have an adequate base to wear dentures on, can have implants placed to help secure the denture.
Please stop in so we can discuss how we can help you get the smile you always have dreamed of.
Be Green, Be Teeth Clean: Dry Mouth
It is also called Xerostomia, it is a decrease of the saliva flow that may be associated with medications to treat anxiety, depression, allergies, high blood pressure, anti-diarrheals, muscle relaxants, drugs for urinary incontinence, and Parkinson's disease. Medical treatment as chemotherapy and some irradiations also cause this mouth condition.
Dry mouth can affect nutrition and psychological well-being, while also contributing to tooth decay and other mouth infections. Saliva helps prevent tooth decay, washes away food and plaque from your teeth and limits bacterial growth that can dissolve tooth enamel or lead to mouth infections. For patients with dry mouth the risk of develop caries and mouth infections is higher. Therefore it's very important to make dental cleaning appointments every 3 to 4 months. If you want to learn more about dry mouth visit the mayo clinic website.
Preventing Oral Cancer
Oral cancer is part of a group of cancers called head and neck cancers. Oral cancer can develop in any part of the oral cavity. Most oral cancers begin in the tongue and in the floor of the mouth lips. Doctors cannot always explain why one person develops oral cancer and another does not. However, we do know that this disease is not contagious. You cannot "catch" oral cancer from another person.
Research has shown that people with certain risk factors are more likely than others to develop oral cancer. A risk factor is anything that increases your chance of developing a disease. Risk factors for Oral Cancer include Tobacco, alcohol and exposure to the sun.
Bruxism -Teeth Grinding
Bruxism means grinding or clenching your teeth. It may be mild and may not even require treatment. However, it can be frequent and severe enough to lead to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth and other problems. Unfortunately, people with bruxism usually aren't aware of the habit, so they aren't diagnosed with the condition until complications occur. That's why it's important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism and to seek regular dental care.
Healthy Teeth.Healthy Gums
Did you ever think its just my teeth, when I get to it Ill get them cleaned?
Think about it, your teeth are attached to the jaw bone, attached to your muscles in the head and neck, a part of your body all tied in together. They sit in the bone and the toxins surrounding your teeth due to gum infection or decayed teeth dont just sit there. They go down and circulate in your body and travel through your vessels. The disease can lodge in the vessels. If your autoimmune system is playing havoc and fighting off infections puts an extra burden on your body this simple putting off a dental cleaning can harm your overall well being significantly.
Science has shown that periodontal disease, gum disease can cause heart problems , premature births, kidney problems, diabetic problems and much more.
So take control of your health and make a commitment to start your journey in becoming proactive, not reactive.
We look forward to help you achieve these goals.
BRIGHTER WHITER SMILES
Everyone wants one.
What are my options?
A whitening solution is applied to your teeth and over time this will bleach the color out of the teeth giving them a cleaner fresher look.
There are several options, all work the same, the difference being the amount it takes to get your teeth to your desired shade.
There are several over the counter products. This will take the longest to achieve results.
You can have custom trays made in the dental office that fit precisely to your teeth and a dentist dispenses a stronger solution then you can get over the counter. This is quicker.
The quickest is to have your teeth Zoom! whitened in the dental office. This is done in 45 minutes.
You need to be examined to see if you are indeed a candidate for whitening procedures. If you have a lot of dental work visible on your front teeth these will not whiten. You need to know this and be prepared to update this dentistry once you whiten your teeth to the desired shade.
Adults-TMJ
In girls over age 13 they are considered adults, boys age 18 for TMJ treatment.
What do we do?
First a TMJ exam is done. This is a clinical exam and an evaluation with our myotronics K7 instrumentation. This verifies 100% scientifically that you have TMJ. A thorough signs and symptoms from you are reviewed. Once we have this diagnosis and treatment is accepted we will begin on phase 1. This is stabilizing the jaw alignment with an orthotic custom made to fit your mouth situation. This can be fixed or removable.
After several months and you're doing well, we can move on to phase 2. Depending on your needs and desire together we will come up with a phase 2 just for you to keep this jaw alignment in the correct position, getting rid of the orthotic.
BREATHING. . . WHAT'S NEXT?
So now we have narrow jaws, crowded teeth, possible headaches clicking ,popping of the jaws when you open, maybe even a sore neck or back.
This is TMJ in children and in adults. The solutions are different for both.
In children we want to get in early with expansion orthodontics, widening the jawbone, creating enough space for the permanent teeth, as well as getting the upper jaw aligned to the lower jaw. You are never too young to have this treatment. Remember that 100% growth is done in the upper jaw by age 12 and 90% for the lower. So the earlier you can do this, the quicker and more stable the results, while getting the growth pattern back on track.
An orthodontic work up is first required.
Then options will be explained and together we will come up with the best plan for you.
What's all the talk about airway?
We breathe every day, but do you know what kind of breather you are? This seems like a simple question but a very detrimental question especially if you answer mouth!
Most of our dental problems, the need for orthodontics and TMJ pain originated from airway issues. If you are a mouth breather, your mouth is open and your tongue stays narrow creating narrow jaws with not enough space for your teeth. If you breath through your nose, you keep your lips closed and the tongue is allowed to occupy the space in the mouth creating large arches and good jaw alignment.
So observe your children while they sit around .Are their lips closed or is their mouth open. If open we need to see why?
Can they breath through their nostrils if you hold their lips closed?
If you answer no- they are mouth breathers.
They need to be evaluated for enlarged tonsils, adenoids and for possible allergies.
Something so simple can save possible orthodontics down the road, can create good students, not daydreamers, due to better oxidation and a more energetic child.
